The Masters
From JUOD
The Masters & Dominators & Rulers & Joiners of the Ring or Untitled is Part VI of The Verities of Joining by Harley P. Mathewson. Those who have seen this particular volume have said it essentially concerns the background and mythology of an aborted fantasy work, though mostly in bullet points (Mathewson never bothered writing the story). Mathewson has repeatedly alleged that J.R.R. Tolkien, his former professor, stole much of the content and turned it into the "The Lord of the Rings." Thus the JUOD founder declared Tolkien to be a non-joiner. Strangely, at other times, however, Mathewson has also declared Tolkien to be "a supreme joiner, of the joiniest nature, a joined joiner who joins at ever joint he visits."
Differences from Lord of the Rings
- In Mathewson's version, there were no dwarfs.
- In Mathewson's version, there were no hobbits, except for Bilbo Baggins, who inexplicably appears from a tree.
- Mathewson's version replaced all hobbits and dwarfs with his equivalent of Balrogs, called "Rogbals."
- The Sauron character and the Saruman character, who is instead named "Tyrannosaur-Man" (though he looks nothing like the dinosaur, strangely), win in the end by the nature of them joining together.
- The Gandalf character is portrayed as a simplistic and vapid homosexual. Scholars have argued that he is thus modeled after William of Ockham. The character dies in his fight with the Rogbal, and the point is explicitly made that he "chose death" by not joining Tyrannosaur-Man. He also conducts a less than consensual homosexual affair with Bilbo, who also dies at the beginning of the story.
